This is the dilemma. You want to run a modern longer, stiffer and plusher fork but your frame isn’t designed to handle it. So do you fit the longer fork anyway and make do with compromised handling (and risk snapping off your old frame’s head tube because it wasn’t designed to withstand the stresses of a longer fork)? Or do you upgrade to a frame that is both strong enough and geometrically corrected to run a 130mm fork?
The Prince Albert is dialled bikes interpretation of the long travel fork enabled steel hardtail. The front end of the Prince Albert is made of Reynolds 520 double butted cro-moly tubing and the rear end is made of 4130 cro-moly to give that real feel that many people believe can only be achieved by a steel frame. The Prince Albert is designed to run on a 130mm travel fork at all times. But despite all that travel up front, you won’t notice any adverse handling characteristics when climbing (in fact, this could quite possibly be one of the best climbing bikes you’ll ever ride!) and you’ll reap the benefits of the extra travel when descending.
Our team rider Steve Taylor showed the versatility of the Prince Albert frame when he raced it to an outstanding 6th place finish in the 2005 NPS 4X race series. See what we mean about not putting bikes or riders into pigeonholes!
